Immigration – We have established a stable government, and a stregthening economy, but our foreign policy doesn’t always promote the same things abroad.  Our values of stablity that we hold should be promoted around the world, the things that make us attractive to others shouldn’t be hidden.  We want a better world and, not just a better UK.  We currently benefit from a net economic gain from immigration, but the effects of this should be felt by all.  For this to be felt by all we need to promote values in the way we look at immigration, and promote values to migrants.  Migrants should know what to look for in employment in order that they benefit from the same ethos of fair pay, ensuring this ethos is felt by UK nationals and migrants.

Economony – The economy has been radically been shaken up, and whilst prosperity is starting to creep in such as increased job security, and lower unemeployment things have been change rapidly, and this has left some behind.  We need to reconnect people with the new economy, especially those who have undergone hardships such as ill health and, not felt able to keep up with rapid change.  We also need to build on what we’ve got as stability returns this creates a new base to build from.

Local – I am concerned about some of the changes that are being developed in Stockport which include large scale regeneration aren’t being done with proper communication with the general public.  I believe that a complicated set of political rules that the general public is being applied to decision making.  This means that our town is under pressure from unseen pressures, and the lid needs to be lifted on these.  This includes decisions being taken away from local councillors, and councillors being unkeen to release information unless it fits a party message.

Investment in people – The headlines often refer to economic crisis being down to financials.  However unseen is what happens when people aren’t invested in, and the effects that this has on future.  This often gets down played as when this is promoted there is the temptation to deepen the national debt to fund this, and whilst this isn’t a good idea we still need to talk about investment in people.  Investment in people doesn’t just come from financial but is also on a spirtual, and hostilic method, so often when we don’t talk about these issues we subdue the protential benefits we could protentially achieve.

Politics is similar the finish line is the election day, and the world will simply see you as a candidate.  There will also be the internal race I run in my head, one which no one will ever know about…

I believe we’ll change through engaging people in politics, once we make a voice as a unit we’ll make that difference.  For too long we are no longer a unit, we are far more insular today than days before electronic communication.  Yet it is easier for us to interact than ever before… get in contact with me if you have questions…

There are some great actors who do play serious roles such as; Russel Crowe (ignoring Gladiator), Helena Bonham Carter, and Judy Dench. There are others, and plenty whose names I’ve forgot, but there are also a few I’m just not sure about…. Angeline Jolie was brilliant in ‘Girl Interrupted’, but seemed to take a somewhat deliberate journey to the non-serious side of acting with Tomb Raider which despite the acting not being of a level she is capable of, it is actually the film that made her a superstar. This is probably the clearest example of gimmicks, triumphing over talent. This isn’t a panacea to success, when you look actors such as Robin Williams who has dabbled with some gimmicky films, but has been most successful as a serious actor. In truth acting talent is a real jumble of gimmick’s and descent acting….

I however prefer there to see great acting, and maybe it’s sometimes good when great stories are brought to life with big budget films such as in Avatar. Maybe the Clint Eastwood was worth the wait in endless westerns to finally see him in ‘Gran Tourino’ playing an outstanding role. But, I just want to see great acting, and storylines now…. Maybe I’m a little impatient…

The Art-house films do this, it’s a place where actors can play out serious roles, without the huge pressures of Hollywood budgets, and what we see are continuous great films. The chances people take with new concepts are still daring, and often play with everything they’ve got, but they can do this as it’s just everything they’ve got, and not soo much the responsibility of huge sums of money which have a cascading cost on other people.

It’s not always the case that the Art-house films are more serious than there blockbuster counterparts, but we do see more serious films being made by Art-house film makers. It’s a real question of do we trust the ‘money men’ with too much of our souls, and our cultural development.
